Happy New Year!

Welcome to the new year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I'm enjoying my mini vacation. I mailed out my last disc of 2009 and I am officially photo free for another four days. I've been watching endless hours of movies and The Office. My husband and I have been creating new things in the kitchen. My dog hasn't had to sit next to my desk and beg me for attention. (I think he might be ready for me to get back to work now.)

We had a grand total of seven seconds to get that shot.

I couldn't be more excited for the things coming up. Lots of fantastic engagement sessions and weddings for the year, new babies being born everyday, kids finishing up high school... it's always something new with this job! My big, giant goal for 2010 is to find a studio space.

What big things does everyone else have planned for 2010?

Next week I will have two amazing sessions to share with everyone! A 1st birthday party and a rocknroll engagement session.

Newborn Addison

Well, I think this is it. The last *official* post of 2009. January is always a little slow so I plan to use my little break photographing things for fun. I can't remember the last time I took a picture outside of a booking! Hopefully, I'll be sharing that stuff here. My friend Jeff suggested I start doing things out and around Omaha and doing some community related posts. Not a bad idea!

But for now, here's Addison. Soak this kid in. She was adorable. She was only five days old and so alert! I couldn't believe it. All the other times I've photographed newborns they either cry or sleep through the entire session. I was amazed at how many pictures I got of her looking at (more or less) her parents or me.

Sarah & BJ's Wedding

Christmas plus weddings. Two of my favorite things all rolled up into one. Not a bad way to end the year here at Christine McGuigan Photography!

Sarah and BJ got married last week. I took their family photos a few weeks ago and was excited to come back for their wedding.

Gift Certificates!

Still in need of a Christmas idea? Give them a gift certificate for portraits! It's fun, something that they'll cherish, and most importantly, you'll save yourself a Christmas Eve trip to Wal-Mart!!!

Jack's Baby Photos

Several months ago when I went to order more business cards, I decided to change up the design a little. My educational background is in design, so I'm always changing things around... when maybe I shouldn't. Because then I decided to change my blog header to match. And I figured if I'm going to run ads they should match the new design, so I put the new logo on them. And now that I have a new logo in a semi-official sense, I should start using it as the new watermark. But then I need to update the website... And what do I do with the old watermarked photos?

It started with business cards and became a giant chore. Moral of the story, when you're starting a business go ahead and stick to your business. Leave the branding to someone else. Unless you're starting a design business in which case I wish you luck.

Ah well, let's forget about the whole thing. You probably came here to look at pictures, not be subjected to my inner dialogue in print. Today I have some pictures of Jack. This little boy is freaking adorable. There's no other way to put it.

Look who was missing out on all the attention!

On the Web!

You can now find Christine McGuigan photography on The Knot!

Also, I submitted this photo to a Pioneer Woman photo challenge and it got posted yesterday right here. How exiting is that!?

Yesterday and Today

December in my house means a month solid spent at the Omaha Community Playhouse. My husband performs in a show called Yesterday and Today with two of his brothers and a few other amazing musicians. It's a Beatles request show. The audience members pretty much pick the set list and share their stories about why they love a certain song. The show is just ridiculous. These guys put so much talent and effort into what they do. If you live in the area you should definitely check it out. And if you don't live in the area, they'll be touring next year! They'll be everywhere from California to Pennsylvania.

I stopped by a rehearsal and took some new promo shots for the guys.

A Very Jude Christmas

I recently discovered something new that I love about this job: Repeat clients! I have to admit that it's a little stressful sometimes walking into a stranger's house and photographing their family. It's just... odd. I don't know how to describe it. It's a little like being on a blind date I suppose. That's not to say that I don't like it, of course! I love meeting new people and new families. But in the past couple of weeks I've meet up with some familiar families and it's so great! It's like hanging out with friends more than working. Everything is a bit more casual, there's catching up to do, it's just nice all around.

I took another trip over to Jude's house for some holiday photos recently. My how these kids grow! I really adore Jude. Definitely one of the cutest babies ever. His parents are awesome too. Can't wait to hang out with them again!

Cindy, Peyton, and Leila

I've got a little more holiday goodness today. Holiday goodness x3 in fact.

I am so geared up for Christmas this year, it's ridiculous. Hanging out with all these excited kids in their holiday clothes, talking about presents and Santa... It's all too much. I've been making a conscious effort this year to buy more handmade and artisan gifts for my friends and family. Etsy is of course a great place to shop. I found another really cool print shop that I luuurve, but unfortunately I can't say who they are or what they print... I bought a Christmas gift for my husband from them and he occasionally reads my blog. Soooo, sorry folks.

Is everyone else getting excited for the holidays? Cindy, Peyton, and Leila sure were. It was freezing the morning we took their pictures. So, instead of our outdoor location we picked, we sort of crashed the Christmas display at a local mall before the shops opened up. I was waiting to get kicked out by security but I think everyone was too entertained by the girls to really care. They even got to sit in Santa's chair (throne?) before he got there. How cool is that?

Andrew Jay - CD Release

What's everyone doing next Friday? Andrew Jay, a client of mine and friend of my husband's, is celebrating the release of his new CD that night. (I did some photos for his album! How exciting!)

You should come! For $7 you can get in for the show AND a copy of his sure-to-be-amazing album. Seriously, the dude is talented. And I don't want to sit alone at the bar. :( Matt has a show at the Omaha Playhouse that night.
