Jen's Salon Party

Over the summer I've been working with Jen on a few different photography shoots. I did her wedding shower, rehearsal dinner, and morning-of salon session with her girls. Under normal circumstances I'm not a fan of salons, but there's something so indulgent and posh about drinking mimosas while you're pampered with hair and makeup on your wedding day. Maybe it's just the champagne talking...

Guitar Session with Matt

I had an idea for a few pictures I wanted to take. I needed two things: A subject and a guitar that we could ruin. My husband stepped up to the plate for both. I had never really taken pictures of him before. I've taken pictures of his band, yes. But never just pictures of him. It was... awkward? Maybe just a little at first. I find it much easier to work with strangers than with people I know. But on the other hand I didn't hesitate giving him directions. I can get a little bossy sometimes with him. He forgives me though...

Please forgive me for what I'm about to say, because I know it's going to make you gag. But I think my husband looks so hot in these pictures. Can you believe that? Aren't married people gross?

Just so everyone knows, that guitar was junk before he smashed it on the ground. His brother found it on the side of the road a couple years ago. So, no need to freak out. We weren't being wasteful and destructive. We were just reusing someone else's trash.

Up until two weeks ago he had hair down past his shoulders. We wanted to take pictures before he cut it since he had some serious Lynrd Skynrd going on and it would have looked awesome in the shots... But alas he couldn't stand having long hair anymore and chopped it off. He immediately regretted cutting it off. We both have that habit in common it turns out...

Family Portraits

Jackie contacted me about taking some family photos of her and her siblings for their parents' Christmas presents. What a wonderful idea! (hint, hint) They all had quite a bit of fun in these, rather than your typical "sit and pose" type family portraits. It certainly made my job easy. I have to admit it was a little intimidating photographing three adults as opposed to kids. They were really great though!

But speaking of Christmas... Now is a great time to book a session for your Christmas cards, presents, etc. September and October are really the last two months that are guaranteed* to have some nice weather. Plus, it gives you ample time to get your pictures/cards printed before the holiday rush. November could be fun though to do some pictures inside by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate. Who wants to book that??

*As much as you can guarantee a thing like that in Nebraska.

Jojo's Unofficial 2nd Birthday Shots

On Sunday, we had a family get-together in honor of a couple birthdays and some family being in town. That in turn became an unofficial second birthday shoot of Jojo. She was eating a chocolate cupcake (I'm the childless idiot who gave a two year old chocolate frosting) and she looked so cute, so precious that I couldn't resist.

And she's incredibly patient with me when I stick a camera in her face so there's that too.

See what she's holding in her hand there? It's a chocolate covered camera. She probably liked it because it's pink, but I choose to think that she liked it because she has so much admiration for her dear aunty who is always bugging the crap out of her with a lens six inches from her face.

I cannot get over her eyes in this picture. They're usually a greenish color, but they ended up bright blue in this shot. I have no idea how or why but I'll take it. I let out an audible, "Awwwwww!" Every time I look at it.

My heart melts for this kid. She's the sweetest little girl in the world. I told her parents I want to have ten babies just like her some day.

But for now I'll settle for just being her aunt.

Ava and Nolan

Perfect Sunday morning for a trip to the lake for some pictures.

At first, this dude wasn't happy about having his picture taken. But then I suggested that maybe we take his picture on the playground equipment and everything was cool.

Happy Half Year Birthday!

Grant turned half a year old back in July. I really can't believe how much he's changed in six months. He went from a limp baby blob to a bouncing, arm swinging, food gobbling, babbling little man.

We tried to take him outside and put him in the grass, but he just wasn't having it. Apparently grass is still a no-go for him. He better get over it fast if he's going to play football for UNL. You can't really tell from these pictures, but the boy is a giant. He weighs 3 pounds less than my other nephew who is 19 months. So, at six moths he's roughly the size of a toddler.

Alarming! I know! Sometimes that gene pool is a total crapshoot.
